Birth & Childhood

His Eminence PAUL (Rami) Yazigi was born in 1959 in the coastal city of Lattakya (Syria). Being raised in a very devout family, he was taught from his youth to love and care for the Church. He lived in Lattakya and excelled in his studies. After graduating from the Secondary school, he pursued a Civil Engineering Degree at the University of Tishreen. During his university studies, he played a leading role in youth ministry, Sunday School, and Byzantine Music Training.

Academic Records:

  • Phd in Theology, with high distinction, from Aristotle University of Salonica – Greece, 1992. His Thesis, written in Greek, was published as a book: “Eschatology & Ethics: The Eschatological Foundation of the Life in Christ According to St. John Chrysostom”.
  • Professor of Ethics and Patrology at St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology – Balamand University – Lebanon, 1992 – .
  • Dean of St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology – Balamand University –Lebanon, 1994 – 2001.
  • Professor of Rhetorics at St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology – Balamand University – Lebanon, 2002 – 2006.

 Conferences and Committees:

  • Representative of the Patriarchate of Antioch in the Official Theological Dialogue between Orthodox and Catholic Church (2005-2010).
  • Representative of the Patriarchate of Antioch in the Orthodox Official Committee of Bioethics (2011 –  ).
  • Many conferences organized by St. Egidio Community and Focolary Movement. And many other Inter-Christian Scientific conferences.
  • Many Local and International Muslim – Christian Conferences, especially in Aleppo.
  • Member of the Committee “Aleppo, the Capital of Islamic Culture”.
